Movies and Angels
"dancing queen, she's the mama mia, here I go again, can you hear me SOS"
Oh yeah oh yeah, I am a complete and utter fan of the movie Mama Mia!
On a whim (sheesh, and someone I know calls me Ms. Whimsy), anyway, on a whim yesterday I decided to go check out the film. Boycub wanted no part of this nonsense, but Babycub was geared up and ready to hit the theater with me in a heartbeat. The afternoon matinee was starting at 2:30, it was 1:45, and I had to fly.
I dashed to the shower, then thought of a friend that I knew would love to see it as well. As soon as I got out I called her and told her that if I could do it she could. She argued for 30 seconds, until I reminded her that I was standing there dripping wet and was still going to be able to get there - she could too.
She was.
Welcome once again to Small Town America. As soon as we walked in there was a yell from the concession stand "Hey Ms. Deej!!" I have students working there. Once in the theater we were all greeted with holas and hellos from students, parents, and friends. Lovely, my hair was still wet and I'd tossed on jeans and a t-shirt. Thank goodness the lights are off when movies play.
It was delightful! Not a single person got up during the film. There was laughter and toe-tapping throughout the film. Sure, the actors and actresses in this are not "singers", but the movie was so fun, I didn't care. I loved it!
I'm going to see it again tonight with a different friend. Egads, does this make me a groupie????
The Air Show today sucked donkey testicles. They didn't start when they said they were going to start. There was way too much lag time between performers. Hell, I took two naps in the midst of it all! Boycub and I played a game to count how many other people we would see sleeping. There were quite a few snoozers.
The weather turned cold, and I found myself forking out $35 for a rather hideous hoodie, but it kept me warm - until the rain hit. By the time the Blue Angels began performing it was drizzling and cold. Midway through their performance, the fog rolled in and they had to cancel. Better safe than sorry, but I can't help but think if they'd started on time and run the show efficiently, we'd have been able to get the whole Angel performance in before the fog hit.
By the time we hiked the million miles through the field to our car, we were soggy and bedgraggled frozen urchins. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr and grrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Since all trillion people that attended parked in the same field and left at the same time, it took TWO, yes, I said TWO hours to get the heck out of there.
So now, I am sipping my cocoa and all dried off. Soon, I'm heading out for some entertainment I know I'll enjoy. Who knew ABBA could be so much fun?
Peace

That is a real shame about the air show. I've been to several air shows and sometimes there are lag times which can be boring so I understand.
Boy I sure didn't love ABBA back in the day so I am not sure I would like the movie but might give it a try.

We've had the Blue Angels here before, they put on quite a show!
It sounds like yours wasn't much fun though...:(
I've seen the previews and I want to see that movie too, but there is not one person I know that would go see that with me, too bad we didn't live closer!

even as a AF wife I can humbly say that the Blue Angels kick the Thunderbirds butt in a performance, but then again the Thunderbirds did have a woman pilot on the team...

I saw the Blue Angels and a pretty awesome air show when I lived in Nevada. But there wasn't lag time, and it was pretty organized. I'm sure that makes all the difference in the world. I think I would like too see that movie too. I might look to see where it's playing:)

Seeing as money's tight right now, I'm saving my cinema experiences for movies I really want to see on the big screen (namely, The Dark Knight), so if I do feel like seeing this I'll have to get Tom to downl- *ahem* procure it for me. *grin*

Moth - I bet your wife would LOVE the movie! It's totally chickified! Wha? You think donkey testicles are funny? I bet boy donkeys would be horrified to hear you laughing at them. *nods*
Nikkie - The movie is totally fun and lighthearted. I bet you really like it. Do let me know if you see it!
Laurie - The Angels were great, but the rest of ths show was so poorly organized, it just sucked. I wish we could have seen the entire Angel show though! You really should make Lisa go with you to the movie!
NysaK - I love the Thunderbirds too though. I've always been impressed by both groups, but I've seen the T-birds more than the Angels. : )
Lisa - Yikes, woman, get together with Laurie and go see the movie. I bet you guys absolutely love it! If you see it, let me know!
Windy - It was just as much fun the second time around. LOL I am totally such a sap that way!
Twisty - Procuring is good too! I actually had free movie passes that I used. They were given to me for some teacher award thingy. I have a few left now to use on other movies. : )
Juan - LOL Enjoy the songs. That's one thing about Abba, the songs stick in your head. I was never a huge fan of theirs, but I really did love this movie!

Deej: Not sure if Lisa would dig it or not... she asked me today to go see Dark Knight tonight... so... you be the judge. :p

I like ABBA...but not sure if i could sit thru it in a movie. I know hubby would rather die then see it...so I'll have to wait until it comes out in DVD and rent it for myself.
Sorry to hear the air show was a bust...we almost drove up there to see it! Now I'm glad we didn't! We spent the day in the park with the dogs....it was warm and sunny here!

LMC - You'll love it when you see it! It rocks! I just ran into a friend that went to the airshow yesterday instead of Saturday and she said it was great. Mental note to self - go the second day if I ever go again!

I only once attended an airshow and it was fantastic until one of the plains crashed. Lucky far away from the public so that noone was hurt, well noone expect the pilot. The show must go on was the motto of that airshow so we got to see the rest but we were still wondering what exactly happened with the pilot of the crashed plain.
I have the golden CD of Abba and those songs are wonderfull. So i can imagen that the film is good aswell.

I saw an airshow once. The weather was the opposite of yours--hot and humid, even up here. Must have been in the 90s, and this took place in the early '90s, too, back when the Air Force Base near Marquette, MI, was still operating. I remember the long, long walk from the parking area to the field, walking through a couple of C-130s (cooler in there; out of the sun) and then trudging back to the car later. Just my older son and I made the trip.
My wife and I are both looking forward to seeing "Mamma Mia." I can deal with ABBA--it's fun music. But I also want to see "Hellboy II." That film looks like it rocks.

Logis - Wow! Here, they would have to stop the air show immediately if a plane crashed. The NTSB and all kinds of other agencies would have to come in and investigate immediately.
Dr. Dog - I normally love air shows, but this one was just plain horrible. I do hope you love the movie as much as I did!

I neither like abba nor musicals, so I think this is one I'm going to attempt to avoid, although my boyfriend might drag me to see it. Sigh. Him and his weird tastes.
